Easily My 5 Favourite Things That Were This September

I’m bummed. I missed getting to my August favourites post. That being said, August was a write off with how busy I was with work so it probably wouldn’t have made for a good piece anyway :)

But —

September has been a little more interesting and indeed there are a small handful of things that really made the month in each of their own ways.

What I’m Reading

I’m currently reading Radical Candor – Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity by Kim Scott. The cover really struck me, it’s bright orange and so in going against the “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” motto, I did anyway, and it turns out it’s a bloody good book. Focused on exploring how one can be a great boss, Scott draws upon a wealth of experience from her time boss-ing, from some of the world’s most big name organisations. I cant wait to finish this book. If you run a team, lead an organisation or you’re steering a not-for-profit into making an impact, it’s definitely a thumbs up so far for the book shelf.

What I’m Wearing

If I had all the money in the world I would spend it on coffee mugs, water bottles, watches, a real fancy nib-pen and of course, boxes of fresh-ass white shoes. Just like these ones I got for Father’s Day this year.

Super light-weight, comfortable and brand new, the only thing left to do is to put these feet up in the board room and make magic happen.

The only gripe I have is the laces are real grippy, so you can’t just pull them undone. But hey, it’s certainly not a deal breaker, especially since they look like they’ve been born from a glass of milk.

What I’m Eating

OK, so here’s the deal – I need to take care of this dad-bod situation. Yep, still working on that. So, two things this month have made the favourites list, in part serving graciously towards achieving this goal of health. First, it’s what I’m putting down the hatch – Chobani Greek Yogurt “Flip”. These are the hit of the month. Coming in a range of flavours to bring joy to any type of hungry taste bud, they are low enough in calories for a mid-morning or afternoon snack. Key Lime Crumble and Strawberry Shortcake are my current go-to’s when I want to flip-the-switch off and recharge to something delicious and convenient.

What I’m Doing

Much of my day is based in office and although I’m out and about on the manufacturing floor or in laboratories, I do spend a reasonable amount of time at a computer and reading lengthy reports. With that comes tightness in the back and a weak core – as those of you who are familiar with sit down jobs will know.

An exercise band at hand allows me to punch out some bicep curls, shoulder presses or flys with ease without leaving the office. The bands are relatively cheap to get and super easy to transport from office to home – just throw it in the backpack and away you go.

What I’m Loving

This last one is not something new, original, modern, or special for that matter, everyone has access to it and you probably already do but a little bird taught me something this week – it’s how you use it that is making me excited. If you read my blog regularly you might already know what it is. Twitter.

I’ve had a love affair with twitter since 2009 and have never looked back. It is the only true social network. Recently I wrote a piece on how people can be less “un-social” on social media and twitter is the best place to start.

I spend hours on the platform each week and it’s all value adding. If you find yourself needlessly scrolling through memes or videos on other social platforms only to realise you’ve wasted time, head on over to twitter and make a conversation with someone in your niche, hobby or industry. It’s a real life digital cocktail party, and it’s introvert friendly too!

And there you have it. October is nearing and so is #blogtober. The month where I will write one new blog post each and everyday for the entire month of October. To be the first to know of any new articles I publish, hit the subscribe button on this page (to the right if your on desktop, otherwise down below if your on mobile). Peace!

    1. 😂😅 thanks Fiona. Hehe. I didn’t realise it was coming across so friendly. It’s nice to hear. The yogurts are heaps good. I’ve since found out there is an apple crunch crumble or something or other which I’m sure will be the new favourite.
