Your’re a dreamer, I know. You have your eye set on the prize, I know. You want something really bad in life, I know. You’ll do virtually anything to get what you want in life, I know.

BUT… You haven’t been able to get there yet. You seem to take one step forward and two steps back. You find it hard to be motivated to get going and get started. I know. We have all been there to some extent at times. The difference between those who want what they want and have what they want is simple. They decided to act.

BUT… I know, you’ve decided too right? Yet, you still cant get motivated? The reason is simple… You are not clear about the real reason WHY you must have what you want. You see, the reason why we do what we do can be the very thing that pulls us towards taking action, so much so that you don’t have to push yourself to do what you need to in order to get what you want, you are pulled towards doing it. Don’t worry.. I’m going to give you the tools today to help you find this pull.

If you feel the following then your understanding of motivation is all wrong… Do you find yourself sitting on the couch or in front of the computer knowing that things need to be done while your dreams run faster and faster away from you but for some reason you can’t seem to get up and do something? Do you think that’s a motivation issue? You’re wrong! You’re very motivated doing what your doing. You’re very motivated to sit and do nothing. The uncomfortable emotion you feel is not a lack of motivation, its a lack of certainty in WHY you should be doing what your doing.

You see, when you are clear about WHY you must have what you want then you will no longer have the feeling you associate with as being a lack of motivation which is really the lack of certainty in your WHY. You will find yourself getting up and being inspired! Inspired and driven to taken action. You will find yourself being pulled to do the activity or task that you need to do in order to get you one step closer to achieving your goal, whatever it may be.

So, how do you get clear about your why? The easiest way to get clear is to write it out and make it visual. For some reason the very act of writing this out takes the feelings from inside your head and turns them into something material. This is the first step to getting certain which is essentially what you need.

Let’s do it…

In three columns, title one “What must I achieve?”, the second column, “What are the reasons why I must achieve these?” and in the third column, “What pain will I suffer if I don’t achieve these?”. Take as much time as you have and need to empty your thoughts, feelings and desires into these three columns. At the end of the process reflect carefully on what you wrote. The latter two columns will serve to one, keep you from being stagnant and procrastinating because in doing so you will only suffer the listed feelings of pain, and two, be pulled towards doing the tasks and actions required to make your dreams a reality.

  1. This is really helpful. I’m always very motivated but somehow there seems to be tons of excuses to defer my work, procrastinate for another day. And the way you told us to visualise what would happen if we didn’t do it, that did the trick for me. To die without knowing whether something was achievable is far scarier than all the uncertainty circling it. Thanks for that tip.
