A day in the life of this daddy-entrepreneur…
As some of you know I juggle a shift work J.O.B. as a scientist, my business life as a photographer (among other things in development, blogger and my family (a wife, son and baby girl on the way – literally due any day as I write this). Recently I received a message from a reader saying thanks for my blog and they went onto share a bit about their own journey of trying to juggle a working life and family. It all put everything into place for me and made me realise that what I am doing here is getting out to people; if I can help just one person at a time then day by day thousands can be inspired. Hence the mission behind this post.
I thought I’d share a typical week for me and in doing so hope to inspire you to look at following some sort of routine where you schedule in the most important things in your life. Although it varies, I generally manage my time like this (with the help of a number of systems I have put in place)…
0620 wake up / eat breakfast
0645 travel to work / listen to success podcasts / motivational music / visualization / affirmations
0750 work or sleep (depending on science shift – my shifts are midnight, 3am, 4am or 8am)
1600 travel home/ listen to success podcasts / motivational music / visualization / affirmations
1700 play with son / time with wife / family time
1830 dinner / family time
1900 – 0000/0100 entrepreneur’ing / blogging / editing / journaling / answering emails + messages / building online brand
0000/0100 work or sleep (depending on science shift – my shifts are midnight, 3am, 4am or 8am)
Friday – photoshoots / weekly combined Siladji family dinner
Saturdays – entrepreneur’ing / blogging / editing / journaling / answering emails + messages / building online brand / photoshoots
Sundays – family day (75%) / photoshoots (25%)
You may be wondering where my “personal time” is. I have turned my passions and hobbies into businesses which I find both therapeutic and a form of my “own time” while I am not at the J.O.B or with family – it’s a chance for me to internalise. I do workout sometimes (and should more – working on it dude!), watch movies and read books on the weekends which brings me back down to earth.
I challenge you this week for it is my intention for you that you take a moment to look at what you do with your time each day and see how you can better manage your time. If you’re constantly pushing your family away because “you’re too busy right now” then I’d say its well and truly about time you do it for them and yourself.
I’d love to hear how you juggle time between work / business life and family, as well as your own time. Leave me a comment or tweet about it with #balancingtimewithivan
